Bio-impedence testing is a fantastic tool to get a clear and true picture of a client’s health – of what is happening at the cellular level. Health parameters measured include body composition, cellular health, cellular energy output, cellular fluid balance (an indicator of inflammation levels), hydration levels and biological age.
I often use this test in the gym environment with both the PT and their client. I’ve seen some very interesting and mixed results! As outcomes are heavily influenced by nutrition, adequate rest and exercise, so of course there was an expectation that PTs would nail this. And most do! Recently this is exactly what happened – a PT got the perfect result – body composition, cellular health, cellular energy output, cellular fluid balance were all excellent. This PT just needed to maintain his regime to continue in great health, inside and out.
However I have also seen surprising results. One PT had perfect body composition but very poor cellular health, cellular energy output and cellular fluid balance – indicating high levels of inflammation, not enough rest and poor nutritional uptake. When I heard about the exercise and work schedule of this PT it was an obvious case of under-recovery/over-training. On another occasion the PT had great body composition but was over-hydrating and was at risk of literally drowning himself. He was drinking 6L water and 3L tea each day.
But mostly I see fantastic outcomes, which is testament to the level of commitment to pursuing optimal health!
